Wine Not? A Northern Michigan Winery Wedding

What do you think about when you think about Northern Michigan? Most tourists think of two things: 1. Breathtaking lakeshore views 2. WINE! Luckily for me, Logan and Victoria’s wedding at the Ciccone Winery in Suttons Bay combined both of these wonderful pastimes. The couple currently resides in Traverse City along with their dog, Leo, and were eager to showcase the best parts of Leelanau County to their family and friends on their special day.

ABOUT WEDDINGS AT THE CICCONE WINERY

The Ciccone Winery first opened in 1995 when Tony and Joan Ciccone fulfilled their retirement dream of opening a vineyard in Northern Michigan after 30 years of marriage and life in the metro Detroit area. The location in Sutton’s Bay is now a family affair, with all of their five grown children playing a role in operating the family business. Prominently featured at Logan and Victoria’s wedding was their Tramonto Red, which features notes of vanilla, butter, raspberry, and plum notes. Guests also enjoyed the Gewürztraminer white, a semi-dry glass with grapefruit and floral notes, and a spicy finish.

TRAVERSE CITY WINERY WEDDINGS

Logan and Victoria are passionate about the food and drink scene in Traverse City, and for good reason - the Northern Michigan area is a foodie’s dream, featuring several well-known breweries to complement the wine tasting tours that take place during the fall months. The couple’s wedding website listed a must-try list of both food and drink destinations that their guests could take full advantage of all the city has to offer tourists!  Some of their favorites included North Peak Brewing Company, Left Foot Charley Winery, and The Omelette Shoppe for curing that hangover with a tasty breakfast Sunday morning!

The celebration was the perfect mixture of the vineyard green grape plants plus the perfect blue shoreline views of the Grand Traverse Bay.  I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect Northern Michigan day to shoot this wedding!  I also loved the rustic touches that the barn and the wine cellar incorporated into the aesthetic of this event - the white roses in Victoria’s bouquet were the perfect choice. Any other bright flowers might have detracted from the beauty of the natural elements.

WEDDINGS WITH MOOMERS ICE CREAM

Any visitor to Traverse City knows that a trip is not complete without a visit to Moomer’s!  This family-owned ice cream shop boasts 160 homemade flavors so you’ll never run out of new experiences to try!  Instead of the traditional wedding cake, Logan and Victoria’s reception included a build-your-own Moomers ice cream and cookie station to add a bit of fun flavor to their elegant event - it was definitely a sweet twist!
