A Perfect Blended Family Wedding in Grand Rapids

We may imagine our wedding day as children - getting dressed up, being surrounded by our family and friends, greeting the one that we’ve chosen to be with at the end of the aisle.

But sometimes life has a different direction planned for us.  We may have our children before getting married. We may not meet our life partner at a young age. Our partner may die unexpectedly.

Today, dear reader, I’m happy to showcase a wedding that shows that it’s never too late to find love. The colors, the relaxed atmosphere and the love that was felt from the moment I set foot on site made shooting Tobi and Scott’s wedding an experience I’ll never forget. Magic truly happens when my clients just let me do my thing and allow me the creative freedom to capture moments like these!

WEDDINGS AT CASCADE COUNTRY CLUB

Both the wedding and reception were held at Cascade Country Club in Grand Rapids. This over 100-year-old venue combines both an elegant outdoor terrace and patio, along with a reception space featuring African mahogany dance floors and a neutral color palette. The club had plenty of places for the bride, groom, and their families to get ready, and a tent to block out the sun and predicted rain (we never needed it!).

One of my favorite parts of the day was watching Tobi get walked down the aisle by all three of her sons.  I just love that her children have gotten to bear witness to the joy that is meeting the one you want to spend the rest of your life with and watching you fall in love!  There’s something incredibly unique and special about teaching your children about how beautiful love can be - even if you didn’t originally find it with their other parent.

This wedding was gorgeous inside and out - from the absolutely stunning colors Tobi chose for her bouquet and atop the wedding cake, to the beautiful sunset landscape. I especially loved when I snuck Tobi and Scott outside for some magnificent golden hour photographs. It was such a pleasure to capture their love. Once we become parents, the focus tends to shift away from us to our children - we may focus all of our picture-taking skills on them instead of ourselves and our beloveds!
