A Rustic and Cozy Southwest Michigan Wedding

Southwest of Kalamazoo sites a 13 acre picturesque greenland that you’d see in one of your favorite storybook romances. It’s a lovely cottage and barn known as Gable Hill. Overlooking the charming Streater’s Mill Pond, the surroundings create a woodsy, outdoorsy vibe that combines with traditional elegance to create a magnificent event space.

I knew when Kelsey and Garrett ended their spring engagement session with me at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Detroit that their wedding would be just a gorgeous celebration, and I was so happy to be right!  Gable Hill provides its own bridal cottage for its celebrated to be able to relax and unwind while getting ready for the big day. The lighting in the facility is fantastic and I was able to get some unbelievable shots of the sparkle on Kelsey’s dress!

OUTDOOR WEDDINGS IN SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN

Michigan weather can be unpredictable - in June, you can be met with pop-up thunderstorms and weather that could be in the 60s or in the 90s! I always urge my couples planning outdoor celebrations to make sure to have a backup plan in case the weather isn’t what you’re planning during your ceremony! Luckily, the weather at Gable Hill was fantastic during our event - no rain and enough clouds in the sky to make it comfortable and not too sunny!

My favorite shots took place on the deck outside and in the trees that surrounded the property. I kept thinking Tinkerbell was going to pop up on us any second, or some other fairy of the woodlands!  It was a truly dreamy landscape to shoot in and I’m so thankful Kelsey and Garrett trusted me to tell the story of their special day. The sunset on the property was like nothing I’ve ever seen before!

GABLE HILL WEDDING VENUE

Gable Hill is not your typical barnyard wedding venue, but it does have a indoor sheltered celebration area that is not heated or air conditioned, so you can still feel aspects of the outdoor elements without worrying about bugs or dirt while dancing the night away. I loved the twinkle lights that adorned the venue. The entire experience was simply magical and it’s one I’ll be thinking about for years to come!
