A Northern Michigan Elopement

Let’s talk elopements and micro weddings… I am obsessed. It’s been a hot second since I have shot a wedding under 20 people and I forgot how much I love it. I had the pleasure of taking on Ellen and Aaron’s Northern Michigan wedding at a private venue on a lake, and it served as the perfect reminder as to why you might want to consider a smaller celebration. 

It used to be that elopements were reserved for couples looking to escape from their parents and family. Luckily, that is not the case anymore! Sometimes, the more guests you have, the more complicated your celebration needs to be and that can take the focus away from what’s important: you and your beloved.

Elopements and small weddings feel a lot like a family vacation. There’s typically a lot less stress and a whole lot of fun. I LOVED being in this setting. It was small and intimate. I felt like I was one of the family members. I felt genuinely connected while celebrating alongside them. These moments make my heart the most aligned with my creative spirit.

I loved the green and cream color palette used in this celebration - it corresponded perfectly with the early fall colors and the greenery of the lake! The weather was perfect and we were able to get some amazing shots of the couple both inside and outside of the location. 

When you are hiring a photographer to capture your elopement or traveling for a small wedding, consider using them for multiple sessions during the span that they are with you. Let me capture the entire trip that took place during the time of your wedding, not just the celebration itself.
