Top 15 Wedding Venues in Michigan
I love Michigan. I never turn down an adventure and I love to explore, but Michigan is special to me. It’s where my husband and I live, and it’s where I get to watch my daughter grow up. If you are starting to plan your wedding and are looking for the top wedding venues in Michigan, you are definitely in the right place. As a Grand Rapids wedding photographer, I love to check out both new wedding venues as they open up and revisit older venues and watch how my wedding couples have made it their own. I have a few favorites here.
EAST MICHIGAN WEDDING VENUES
DETROIT ART INSTITUTE
I absolutely love photographing weddings at the Detroit Institute of Arts. With white walls and great lighting, it really is a photographer’s dream. If you are looking for a stunning backdrop, look no further!
BELLE ISLE CASINO
If you are looking for a stunning and elegant location, I love Belle Isle Casino. The archways make for incredible photos, and I love the use of traditional architecture from the original 1908 build.
DETROIT MASONIC TEMPLE
Fun fact: this is the world’s largest Masonic Temple. Complete again, with the traditional architecture that will make you fall in love with East Detroit. Inside the Detroit Masonic Temple, there are spaces to rent ranging from intimate rooms to grand ballrooms.
PLANTERRA CONSERVATORY
If you are looking for a more earthy venue, I love the botanical gardens at the Planterra Conservatory. If you love being in nature but don’t want to deal with the unpredictable weather, Planterra Conservatory is the perfect solution. I also love that this venue is an “all in one” solution, complete with in house catering, design, florals, rentals and more.
ZINGERMAN CORNMAN FARMS
Last but certainly not least, I love Zingerman Cornman Farms. They have a mix of spaces - indoor and outdoor, intimate and grand - so there are no limits. One of my favorite things about being a wedding photographer, is knowing that I am capturing moments that will result in years of nostalgia. I resonate with their founder’s story so deeply. They want their venue to feel like home, with connection between family and friends being the most important thing.
WEST MICHIGAN WEDDING VENUES
THE CHENEY PLACE
If you are dreaming of an Urban Chic wedding venue, The Cheney Place might be the perfect fit. The Cheney Place is a refurbished warehouse space, which they say is "urban meets vintage meets modern". Personally, I have to agree!
THE BALLROOM AT MCCAY
Unique, elegant, luxury. If you are looking for a wedding venue in West Michigan, the Ballroom at McKay is stunning. It’s recently remodelled with the largest space being 10,900 square feet, but it can be divided to accommodate more intimate events as well.
ST. CECILIA MUSIC CENTER
Location, location, location. St. Cecilia Music Center is located right downtown in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Not only is the St. Cecilia Music Center stunning, it has both classic and charming architecture bth indoors and outdoors. It has been a central part of Grand Rapids since 1894!
DOWNTOWN MARKET
The Grand Rapids Downtown Market is another one of my favorite locations to get married in Michigan. You can rent out different spaces, but one of the most popular is their rooftop greenhouse (complete with absolutely breathtaking locations of downtown Grand Rapids, MI).
THE OLD WOODEN BARN
I love a good rustic wedding venue. The Old Wooden Barn exists on 5 acres, and was hand built in 1905. Needless to say, there have been a lot of memories here! Although a wooden barn might sound a little too rustic, the indoor chandelier and string lighting throughout adds an ambiance that can’t quite be put into words.
MID AND NORTHERN MICHIGAN
HIDDEN CREEK FARMS
Hidden Creek Farms is a stunning wedding venue in Charlotte, Michigan. Plus, I love supporting the husband and wife team - if anything, 2020 has reinforced how important it is to support local businesses.
FRANKENMUTH BREWERY
Maybe I’m just a tad sentimental, but this is the oldest brewery in Michigan. The Frankenmuth Brewery is a unique wedding venue, fits up to 275 guests, and offers you and your guests an award-winning lineup of craft beer and wine.
MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY
I love when wedding couples make their wedding personal to them, which is why I love how many couples are choosing to get married at Michigan State University. Like many of the other Michigan wedding venues here, there are a few different spaces that you can rent for weddings depending on the size of your guest list.
MACKINAC ISLAND
Dreaming of a destination wedding but want to remain a little closer to home? Mackinac Island is rising in popularity and for good reason! The island is gorgeous and has a classic fairy tale feel in an intimate setting (there are only 1600 hotel rooms on the entire island!). If you are looking for a micro wedding venue in 2021 or 2022, don’t forget to look here!
BOWER'S HARBOR
I tend to be more of a beer person, but I have to admit this vineyard right on Lake Michigan is gorgeous. If you are looking for a unique wedding venue, Bower’s Harbor is a Northern Michigan Winery and one of the first Michigan wedding venues I ever had the pleasure of photographing. I can’t wait to go back!
