A Traditional Jewish Wedding at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Detroit
Friends, I just have to tell you…this wedding was incredible. It happened at the beginning of September, when the first hints of fall are starting to mix into the Michigan weather patterns, but still warm enough to where sleeveless dresses are still comfortable. Shelby and Max’s metro Detroit wedding took advantage of the best of both summer and fall, with perfect temperatures mixed with autumn’s best colors in the bouquet and in the floral arrangements. Read on for more details of this amazing celebration.
MICHIGAN JEWISH WEDDINGS
First of all, you can’t look at Shelby for more than a second without knowing she’s going to make your day fun. Her infectious grin brought a light to every single photograph I took of her throughout her wedding day! From our first meeting it was so easy to see how Max and Shelby fell in love with each other. They just have the most amazing personalities that complement each other so well!
I absolutely adored their wedding ceremony at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield. This inclusie yet traditional Jewish community was amazing to work with! Our day started with the Tisch, a low-key celebration for the groom before the start of the ceremony. The men enjoyed a ceremonial toast to Max’s good fortunes and just enjoyed being around each other! I also got some exquisite shots of the bedeken, which if you are not familiar with Judaism is the time in the ceremony where the veil is placed over the bride just prior to the marriage rites.
WEDDINGS IN METRO DETROIT
The synagogue itself featured some gorgeous blue-tinged stained glass windows that complemented the fall colors of the bridal decor so perfectly, along with the chuppah (the canopy the bride and groom stand under during the ceremony). I just loved watching them combine the traditional Jewish elements into a classic and modern wedding ceremony, especially the sheva brochot (seven blessings). The wine chosen as part of this was also a gorgeous blue color that matched the stained glass windows!
The weather was so perfect that we couldn’t resist heading outside for some photos during the golden hour as well. I so enjoy when the couples have some extra time for me to capture their first moments as husband and wife before they have to compete for my attention with all of their friends and family!
SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN WEDDING RECEPTION PHOTOGRAPHY
After all that tradition, the bride and groom were ready to cut loose and party - and dare I say, they did! Check out the amazing photos of their friends, family, and neighbors busting a rug on the dance floor. You can tell from just a few peeks that everyone was having the time of their lives! I especially loved Shelby’s sunglasses!
